CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: WHER PARALEGAL TRAINING PROGRAM

Are you passionate about human rights, social justice, and community empowerment? The Women’s Health and Equal Rights (WHER) Initiative is inviting applications for its Paralegal Training Program — designed to strengthen grassroots legal and mental health support for the LBQ-GNC community across Nigeria.

We are looking to train 15 dedicated individuals who either possess a working knowledge of Nigerian laws or have hands-on experience engaging with their communities. This program is more than a training — it’s a pathway to becoming an active agent for change and protection of human rights for lesbian, bisexual, queer women, intersex, transgender, and gender nonconforming persons.

Program Overview:
• 15 candidates will undergo a one-week intensive training covering human rights, legal basics, community advocacy, and mental health first response.
• Participants will be required to take a final assessment exam at the end of the training.
• 10 successful candidates who pass the exam will be officially appointed as WHER Paralegals.

Role and Responsibilities:
• Provide first-aid legal support and mental health first response to community members.
• Escalate complex legal cases to WHER’s legal team and mental health concerns to WHER’s psychologist as needed.
• Facilitate monthly human rights sensitization forums within their local communities.
• Maintain active engagement through information sharing platforms to promote human rights education.
• Uphold the values and mission of WHER by advocating for the rights and dignity of LBQ-GNC persons.

Position Details:
• Contract Duration: One year (Part-Time).
• Monthly Stipend: ₦50,000.

Eligibility Criteria:
• Applicants must identify as lesbian, bisexual, queer women, intersex, transgender, or gender nonconforming persons.
• Must have prior knowledge of Nigerian laws or demonstrated experience in community engagement and advocacy.
• Must reside in one of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
• Must be committed to the advancement of LBQ-GNC human rights.
• Must have, or be willing to create, platforms for human rights education and information sharing.
