AFRICAN PRIDE ACCELERATED (APA) PROJECT COORDINATOR

JOB OVERVIEW

The APA Project Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, and execution of the annual African Pride Accelerated (APA) Summit. This role will also include fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring the successful delivery of the event. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, a deep understanding of LGBTQI+ issues in Nigeria, and a passion for advocacy and community building.

LOCATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The role is primarily office-based in FCT, Abuja but may require travel within Nigeria for stakeholder engagement and event coordination, and shall require flexibility to working in the evenings and weekends during peak planning periods and the APA Summit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Planning and Organizing
i. Develop a detailed project plan for the APA Summit, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
ii. Coordinate with WHER’s leadership team to align APA’s goals with the organization’s mission and vision.
iii. Identify and secure event venues, vendors, and service providers.
iv. Oversee the development of event materials, including programs, promotional content, and workshop resources.

B. Coordination and Execution
i. Serve as the primary point of contact for all APA-related activities.
ii. Manage relationships with partner organizations, speakers, performers, and participants.
iii. Ensure smooth day-to-day operations during the APA Summit, including logistics, scheduling, and troubleshooting.
iv. Supervise volunteers and staff involved in the event.

C. Fundraising and Resource Mobilization:
i. Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to secure financial support for APA.
ii. Identify and apply for grants, sponsorships, and partnerships with donors, NGOs, and corporate entities.
iii. Organize fundraising events and campaigns to engage the community and allies.
iv. Maintain accurate records of donations and funding sources.

D. Stakeholder Engagement
i. Build and maintain relationships with LGBTQI+ organizations, activists, and allies
across Nigeria and Africa.
ii. Collaborate with media outlets to promote APA and amplify its impact.
iii. Engage with local communities to ensure inclusivity and representation in the summit.

E. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
i. Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess the impact ofAPA.
ii. Collect feedback from participants, partners, and stakeholders to inform future events.
iii. Prepare detailed reports on the summit’s outcomes, including financial summaries and lessons learned.

F. Advocacy and Awareness
i. Use APA as a platform to advocate for LGBTQI+ rights and challenge discriminatory
policies.
ii. Develop content and campaigns to raise awareness about LGBTQI+ issues in Nigeria.
iii. Represent WHER at relevant conferences, workshops, and events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
i. Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Project Management, Communications, or a related field.
ii. Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management, event planning, or community organizing.
iii. Experience working with LGBTQI+ communities or human rights organizations is highly desirable.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
i. Strong organizational and project management skills.
ii. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
iii. Proven ability to fundraise and mobilize resources.
iv. Knowledge of LGBTQI+ issues and the socio-political context in Nigeria.
v. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
vi. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.

REPORTING LINE
The APA Project Coordinator will report directly to the Executive Director of WHER and work closely with the organization’s program and advocacy teams.

CONTRACT TYPE, REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
The contract type is Consultancy for 1 year, renewable annually, with a monthly gross pay of N300,000 subject to a 5% withholding tax (i.e a net pay of N285,000/month) to the relevant tax authority.
Other benefits available to the APA project coordinator include Health Insurance with a Health maintenance organization.
